850 76th Street S.W. - Byron Center, Michigan 49315The Merchandise Financial Planning Supervisor supports retail category financial performance by combining hands-on merchandise planning responsibilities with day-to-day leadership of Merchandise Financial Planners. This is a working supervisor role focused on execution, coaching, and consistency across retail category plans.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Merchandise Planning, the Supervisor partners closely with planning leadership to ensure forecasts, analyses, and category plans are accurate, timely, and aligned with established strategies and targets.
Here’s what you’ll do:
Retail Financial Planning & Execution
- Build and manage retail sales, margin, and inventory plans (by bucket and by week) for assigned categories.
- Maintain weekly and monthly retail forecasts by season, month, and week.
- Support long-range, pre-season, and in-season forecasting activities.
- Develop and maintain seasonal ladder plans, including clearance forecasting and inventory risk assessment.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support promotional, pricing, and assortment decisions.
- Monitor category performance and highlight risks and opportunities.
Supervisory Leadership
- Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight to a team of Merchandise Financial Planners.
- Ensure work is completed accurately, on time, and in alignment with planning standards.
- Coach planners on forecasting methods, financial acumen, and best practices.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new planners.
- Provide ongoing feedback and development support in partnership with planning leadership.
Partnership with Senior Manager, Merchandise Planning
- Report to the Senior Manager of Merchandise Planning and operate in close alignment with planning leadership priorities.
- Execute category plans and team deliverables in accordance with direction and expectations set by the Senior Manager.
- Provide regular updates on category performance, forecast accuracy, and execution status.
- Surface risks, challenges, and opportunities to planning leadership with data-supported insights.
- Participate in planning initiatives and process improvements led by the Senior Manager.
Communication & Collaboration
- Lead or support weekly category-level forecast and business review meetings.
- Communicate financial trends, issues, and recommendations clearly to partners.
- Collaborate closely with Merchandising and cross-functional teams to support execution.
Process & Planning Discipline
- Reinforce adherence to the merchandise planning calendar, tools, and processes.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy across planner forecasts and reporting.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and workflow at the execution level.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, merchandising, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3–6 years of experience in retail financial planning, merchandising, category management, or related roles.
- Experience mentoring or leading others in a team-based environment.
- Strong analytical skills and understanding of retail financial drivers.
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across functions.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with planning systems preferred.
