Job Description:

Position Summary:

The Business Development Representative will use their experience in the transportation, brokerage and/or third-party logistics to generate and/or manage customer partnerships for SpartanNash Logistics (SNL). While this position is an individual contributor, it may oversee a team of support personnel to ensure daily operation tasks are completed and customer service levels continue to be met for SNL accounts.

This role offers a hybrid schedule at our office in Indianapolis, IN.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Responsible for developing and managing customer partnerships through prospecting, cold calling, networking, existing business partnerships, past contacts, internet searches, website leads, manufacturing guides, and social media contacts.

  • Achieve and exceed period, quarterly, and annual revenue, margin, and partnership specific KPI goals.

  • Generate and maintain contractual and transactional freight utilizing network of carriers, SpartanNash fleet, dedicated SNL Fleet, and backhaul operations.

  • Create and execute a specific partnership strategy for accounts to provide continuous profitable growth opportunities.

  • Execute operational processes for customer partners through loading building, scheduling, issue escalation, proactive communication, track/trace, and reviewing financials.

  • Strategize with procurement and pricing teams to execute pricing projects for opportunities and current customer partners.

  • Tracking and maintaining all sales prospecting activity in the company CRM (Salesforce)

  • Participate in the investigation causes of over short and damage claims.

  • Resolve freight invoice discrepancies regarding customer and carrier pricing and any accessorial charges/fees.

  • Support Accounts Receivables with collections of past due invoices for assigned customer(s).

  • Participate in the on-call support rotation and respond to any issues that arise in a timely manner.

  • Ability to travel as business requires.

  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics or other related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in related position a plus.

  • Must have general understanding of brokerage operations and geographic freight markets.

  • Prior demonstration of negotiation skills is preferred.

  • Experience with transportation optimization tools a plus.

  • Familiarity with all transportation modes.

  • Basic understanding of supply chains, carrier pricing and warehouse operations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organization, multi-tasking, problem-solving skills, and must be detail-oriented and able to meet scheduled deadlines.

  • Must have a strong commitment to customer service, solution execution and follow through.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, etc.) required; experience with a transportation management system preferred (i.e., Mcleod TMS).

  • Must be able to participate in on-call rotation.

While performing the duties of this position, the associate is subject to a typical office environment and is rarely exposed to outside weather conditions. Temperatures may vary for those subject to any of the following areas: computer/server room, print shop, production area). The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate but may be high in distribution settings. Travel requirements vary by assignment.
